CLARKSTON, Mich. – A 79-year-old Clarkston man has finally gotten his Chevrolet Silverado back after more than a month without the vehicle due to a parts delay.

Dave Clarence Webster bought the truck in 2023 because it fit his wife’s wheelchair.

Webster initially took the truck in for maintenance after receiving a notice around Dec. 1.

“It was saying that my SD card was not reading,” Webster said.

When he went in for the appointment, he discovered another issue.

“I attempted to shift into Four Wheel Drive, and it wouldn’t shift,” he said.

The dealership told him his transmission was out. The truck is in pristine condition and is still under warranty.

Webster thought getting it fixed shouldn’t take too long. He was wrong.

“I am talking to the write-up guy, and he tells me point-blank, ‘It could be six weeks,’” he said.

They told him it’s because they can’t get the General Motors parts fast enough. He says he called Chevrolet to try and get some answers.

“A few days back, I was in the line, going into one of the restaurants and the phone rang and it was this lady from GM,” he said. “She says, ‘Oh I have a case number for ya now.’ I said I wasn’t worried about the case number. I want my truck back.”

He had also contacted Chevrolet and was eventually assigned a case number, but was eager to get his truck back.

Frustrated, Webster reached out to Local 4 for help and answers.

After Local 4 contacted Chevrolet for comment, the automaker responded:

“We appreciate you bringing this customer’s case to our attention. With the help of GM’s Customer Care team, as well as the careful support from the Vic Canever Chevrolet dealership personnel, the repair was covered at no cost to the customer under the vehicle’s powertrain warranty. The truck has now been returned to its owner.”
