Oakland County residents speak out over massive data center approved without public input

The developer of the data center says the facility will be more efficient than traditional data centers

LYON TOWNSHIP, Mich. – Residents in Oakland County expressed frustration over the approval of a large data center project without much community input.

Lyon Township leaders held an informational meeting about the project, called “Flex,” where residents were invited to submit questions beforehand.

However, the meeting lacked a public comment section and was cut short after the crowd began shouting at officials.

The proposed data center would be massive, covering about 1.8 million square feet between Milford Road and South Hill Road.

Many residents are upset because the project was approved without any public hearings or direct community involvement.

Since the area was already zoned for industrial use, the planning commission conditionally approved the plan without requiring public hearings.

The developer of the data center says the facility will be more efficient than traditional data centers.
