LYON TOWNSHIP, MI – An airplane crash landed in southeast Michigan pond over the weekend after its engine seized, police said. Oakland County Sheriff’s deputies and the local fire department responded to the incident around 7:20 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 19, on the 28000 block of Oakmonte Circle East in Lyon Township, the sheriff’s office said in a news release. Dispatchers were told a plane had crash landed in a pond and the pilot, the lone occupant, was pulling it out of the water. After flying for 10-15 minutes, the engine seized, forcing him to land in the pond, police said. A woman was driving along I-96 when a man on the Old Plank Road overpass, which is under construction, started throwing sandbags onto the highway, according to authorities. LYON TOWNSHIP, MI -- Michigan State Police have arrested a man who allegedly threw several 40-pound sandbags off of an overpass at cars traveling along I-96 Sunday night. MSP troopers were called by the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office around 11 p.m. Sunday for assistance with an accident investigation. Spike in COVID-19 cases linked to grad parties in Oakland County

SOUTH LYON, Mich. – There has been a spike in coronavirus (COVID-19) cases in parts of Oakland County. The health department said the rising number of cases in the South Lyon area can be traced to summer parties -- specifically graduation and prom parties. There have been 50 new cases in South Lyon alone, which is a rate of 15 cases per 10,000 people. In Lyon Township, there are 16, which is almost 23 cases per 10,000. Several of them tested positive for COVID-19 and that started a domino effect.

2 Lyon Township residents taken into custody after drugs, weapons, 2 babies found inside vehicle, police say

LYON TOWNSHIP, Mich. A man and woman were taken into custody Sunday morning in Lyon Township after weapons and drugs were reportedly found in the vehicle. When police saw a blue emergency light affixed to the vehicle, police pulled the vehicle over. Police said the 51-year-old driver of the vehicle was known to detectives as a convicted felon who later admitted to having a firearm in his vehicle. The driver and the woman were taken into police custody. The man was charged with weapons-ammunition possession by a felon, cocaine possession and use/possession of flashing light.

Driver crashes into Lyon Township home while suffering medical condition

LYON TOWNSHIP, Mich. – Police said a driver crashed into a Lyon Township home Wednesday because he began suffering a medical condition. The 74-year-old man was in the 61000 block of Silver Lake Road around 2:55 p.m. Wednesday when he began suffering the medical condition, according to authorities. He lost control of his 2007 Toyota Camry, which went through an open field and crashed into the side of a home, police said. The driver was pulled from the wreckage by firefighters and taken to Providence Park Hospital, authorities said. Police said the Camry’s airbags deployed and the man was wearing a seat belt.

Officials said a driver lost control of their car on Grand River Avenue, struck a tree and rolled over toward the highway. The driver was wearing a seat belt, which saved their life, police said. OCSO: Wanted fugitive found hiding in Novi after ramming police cars to avoid being trapped at gas station

NOVI, Mich. – A fugitive wanted for a series of crimes around Michigan was found hiding in Novi after he escaped being trapped by ramming into detectives’ cars at an Oakland County gas station, officials said. A black Ford Contour believed to belong to the man was seen turning into the Shell gas station at 20777 Pontiac Trail in Lyon Township, detectives said. The driver got out and walked into the gas station store, police said. He fled the scene west on West Eight Mile Road, and deputies terminated the pursuit because of poor road conditions, police said. It was found inside the Novi Meadows Mobile Home Community in the 500 block of Eckschtay Street, authorities said.

Crews battle fire at restaurant in Lyon Township

SOUTH LYON, Mich. – Crews were battling a fire at a restaurant in Lyon Township on Tuesday morning. The Lyon Township Fire Department says they’re assisting, along with the South Lyon Fire Department, on a structure fire at Lyon Cantina, a Mexican restaurant on Pontiac Trail and 9 Mile Road. “First arriving units reported flames through the roof. Units were making an interior attack, however conditions worsened and crews were pulled from the building.”Oakland County Sheriff’s office tell Local 4 that flames were spotted on the roof. Video from the scene shows smoke billowing from the roof.

Off-duty Detroit police officer accidentally shoots girlfriend

LYON TOWNSHIP, Mich. – An off-duty Detroit police officer accidentally shot his girlfriend Wednesday evening in Lyon Township. Police said the woman was shot at the Kensington Place Mobile Home Park. Both the off-duty officer and the victim told investigators the shooting was an accident, police said. As of Thursday, she was listed in serious condition and is expected to pull through, according to the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office. The shooting remains under investigation.

She went into the westbound lane to pass cars heading east in the eastbound lane, according to officials. West Eight Mile Road closed in Lyon Township due to car crash

LYON TOWNSHIP, Mich. – West Eight Mile Road was temporarily closed west of Chubb Road on Wednesday morning due to a crash involving two vehicles, according to the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office. One person was extricated from a vehicle, according to officials. It’s unclear how serious injuries are. Police are investigating the accident. Drivers are advised to use alternate routes and avoid the area.
