Authorities say Douglas turned himself in early in the morning on Monday, Jan. 26, 2026.

He is accused of killing Cornelius Traves Murphy Jr., 19, on Jan. 7.

Murphy’s body was found near a residence in the 100 block of N. Jessie after a caller told authorities that he saw a man lying in a field, and that he wasn’t breathing.

When paramedics arrived, they found Murphy with a gunshot wound to his chest.

Douglas was arraigned on Jan. 26 and given a $300,000 bond.

“I am proud of our team that began an investigation with nothing and through their diligence and professionalism were able to not only identify a suspect, but gather enough evidence that charges could be brought,” Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard said. “We look forward to the justice system moving forward on this case on behalf of the victim, his family and the community.”

The sheriff’s office said that Murphy’s death was the first homicide in the city of Pontiac this year. There were six homicides in the city in 2025.
