Man injured in house fire on Detroit’s west side

Fire officials: Resident suffered smoke inhalation, minor burns

DETROIT – A man was injured in a house fire on Detroit’s west side Wednesday morning, officials said.

The Detroit Fire Department received the report of a fire at a home in the 4200 block of Sturtevant shortly after 8 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 28, 2026.

Firefighters arrived on scene within four minutes and 30 seconds of receiving the 911 call.

Neighbors told the crews that someone may be inside, and the firefighters found a man who had gotten himself out of the home.

He suffered smoke inhalation and minor burns, according to the fire department.

The resident was taken to the hospital for treatment. The fire department said his injuries “do not appear to be life-threatening at this time.”

The fire spread quickly, but crews were able to protect the homes on both sides of the affected property.

One neighboring home was vacant and undergoing renovations, while the other was occupied.

The cause of the house fire remains under investigation.
