HOLLY TOWNSHIP, Mich. – Michigan State Police troopers often handle a wide range of calls, but last night, their assignment involved a very unusual suspect -- a miniature donkey.

On Tuesday, Jan. 27, residents in Holly Township reported that Dolly, the miniature donkey, slipped through an open gate and wandered away from her pasture.

Concerned for her safety in the freezing temperatures, neighbors called Michigan State Police to find the missing animal.

Their search paid off when they spotted the calm donkey taking a leisurely stroll along the road.

Thanks to the troopers’ efforts, Dolly was safely returned to her owners unharmed.

“Troopers assigned to northern Oakland County often find themselves dispatched to locate missing animals in the area,” Lt. Mike Shaw said. “We have located Potato the lost dog, cows along I-75, and now Dolly the miniature donkey. When you join the Michigan State Police, you just don’t know where the day will take you!”
