From traffic lane to terminal doors: New video shows how DTW crash unfolded

Airport officials plan to hold a press conference on Feb. 5 to address the incident

ROMULUS, Mich. – Never-before-seen video reveals the moments before a man crashed his car into Detroit Metro Airport’s McNamara Terminal, sending travelers running for cover.

The crash occurred on Friday, Jan. 23, but a new video was released to Local 4 on Feb. 4, 2026, showing six different angles of the horrific event.

After the crash, the man emerged from the vehicle, yelling incoherently before being taken into custody.

We received an update on the driver’s status and on the new security measures the airport is implementing.

New barriers have been installed outside the terminal.

Airport officials say they are working to determine the best permanent barrier to prevent similar incidents.

Outside DTW, the video captures the driver in a black Mercedes-Benz slowing slightly in the far-left lane before making a sharp right turn, cutting between two cars, and driving straight through the terminal, taking out metal bollards.

Inside the airport, video shows the car ripping through glass doors as travelers and employees quickly move out of the way.

The driver narrowly misses some pedestrians as he crashes through.

Witness videos capture the chaos that followed.

From another angle, the driver can be seen exiting the car with his hands up as TSA agents slowly surround him.

Multiple angles show the damage to the Delta Air Lines ticket counter.

Airport security then swarms the man and takes him into custody.

The driver has not yet been charged and is undergoing a psychiatric evaluation.

Airport officials plan to hold a press conference on Thursday (Feb. 5) to address the incident.
