The Oakland University Police Department (OUPD) urges the campus community to remain vigilant and follow safety guidelines during the lockdown.
OUPD recommends the following assault prevention tips:
If you are the victim of an aggravated assault, seek medical attention as needed and report the incident to OUPD.
To reduce the risk of assault, be aware of verbal and body language that may indicate escalating conflict.
Maintain personal space to allow time to react, disengage from conflict when possible, and seek a safe location.
If de-escalation is possible, remain calm, listen and speak respectfully, and acknowledge the other person’s point of view.
The lockdown remains in place as authorities continue their search.
Campus members are advised to stay informed through official channels.
