Oakland University stabbing suspects still at large, campus on alert

Man injured is not a student, police say

OAKLAND COUNTY, Mich. – Oakland University police continue searching for two suspects involved in a stabbing that left one man injured Thursday night. Witnesses described the suspects as men in their early 20s.

One suspect is about 5 feet 8 inches to 5 feet 10 inches tall, wearing a black North Face jacket, black pants, and white shoes with blue on the back. He has chin-length dreadlocks. The other suspect wore a camo jacket with a black hood, black pants, and black shoes, and has curly hair.

The incident has left some students feeling uneasy as they return to classes. Many on campus hope those responsible will be held accountable.

According to police, what began as a fight escalated into a stabbing outside Van Wagoner House. The victim, who has not been named, is confirmed not to be a student.

“Everything was on lockdown, we couldn’t even walk around like inside the dorms, it was crazy,” said Ayana Williams, who lives in a nearby dorm.

Anthony Smith, who has worked at the university for 25 years, said he has never witnessed anything like this before.

Gannon Mitchell, off campus during the incident, returned to find multiple news crews and a heavy police presence around his dorm.

“Like all my friends were all texting each other and stuff,” Mitchell said, and described their feelings as “shocked and surprised that something like this really could happen just anywhere, especially at our dorm too.”

Oakland University Police Chief Mark Gordon said Thursday night that no one has provided identification or names of the suspects so far.

Police urge everyone on campus to stay alert, travel in groups, and report any suspicious activity.

“It is kind of scary that he’s just walking around and we have no idea who he is or who he could possibly be, but life goes on,” Williams said.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact the Oakland University Police Department.
