WEST BLOOMFIELD, Mich. – A suspect is in custody after two people were shot at separate locations in West Bloomfield, police said.
At 8:57 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 21, a resident of the Thornberry Apartment complex, located near Maple and Farmington roads, called police and said another resident had attempted to “force their way into their apartment with an object that looked like a stick,” according to a press release.

Officers responded to the area and began searching for the suspect.
Then, at 9:04, someone called 911, identifying themselves as a family member of someone who worked at the Maple View Liquor store.
The caller told dispatch that the liquor store worker had been shot and was being driven to the hospital.
Additional officers responded to the hospital.
After that, at 9:09 a.m., dispatch received more calls from residents of the apartment complex about shots being fired in the area.
Officers found the suspect driving his car.
The suspect stopped the car and was holding a rifle when he got out of the vehicle.
He eventually complied with officers’ commands to drop the gun and was taken into custody.
The liquor store worker and a woman who lives at the apartment were shot and taken to the hospital to be treated.
“It appears both shootings were targeted and not random,” according to police. “Since the shooter is in custody, there is NO ongoing danger to the community.”
In an update just after 3 p.m. on Saturday, police said the apartment resident is recovering from her injuries and that the liquor store worker has been placed on life support.
Police also said the suspect “experienced an unknown medical episode and is receiving medical care while remaining in custody.”
