Davis twins evolve in pursuit of West Bloomfield’s first girls basketball state title
In March last year, the West Bloomfield girls basketball program was preparing for what it hoped would be a long and productive playoff run. With a roster brimming with talent, including freshman twin sisters Indya and Summer Davis, West Bloomfield was aiming for the team’s first state championship in program history. Instead, West Bloomfield was forced to concede a no contest entering its playoff opener as COVID protocols forced the end of a promising season. In a video posted on the team’s social media accounts, Tucker said Myre had “a passion to one day play for Michigan State,” Tucker said He praised Myre’s work ethic, athleticism, and love for his teammates. Michigan man dies after being pulled into wood chipper, possibly by his jacket
WEST BLOOMFIELD, MI -- Police believe a 48-year-old man was accidentally pulled into a wood chipper Monday morning by his jacket while feeding the chipper. According to Fox 2 Detroit, police were called around 9 a.m. by one of the man’s co-workers who found him inside the wood chipper. Two investigations have been launched surrounding the incident, one by police and another by the Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration. Although the investigation is ongoing, police say every indication is that the man’s jacket was caught on a branch that was being fed into the wood chipper and it pulled him inside. Police are also looking at the machinery being used to make sure it was working properly before the incident happened.mlive.com

Why Michigan’s Ron Bellamy believes his prep coaching experience can be an asset in recruiting
Before Ron Bellamy was hired in January as an assistant coach on Jim Harbaugh’s staff, he established West Bloomfield as a high school football powerhouse in Michigan. While Michigan is his first coaching position at the college level, Bellamy, a former Wolverines receiver from 1999-2002, believes he can bring a valuable component to the program’s recruiting efforts. “That’s one of the benefits of just taking the high school coach and bringing them along. I think I’m a little different than a high school coach because I was a former player as well. Makari knows it’s tough love; it’s always gonna be love and he experienced that in high school.mlive.com
With new head coach, talented West Bloomfield football embarks on first state title defense
After winning a state championship last season, West Bloomfield assistant football coach Tyrice Grice wondered about the future. After coaching alongside West Bloomfield head coach Ron Bellamy for eight seasons, Grice played a key role in developing a culture that led West Bloomfield to its first state championship back in January. Originally recruited as a running back, he seems destined to play defensive back in college as Michigan and Michigan State appear to be the final two schools he will decide between. “We had a lot of depth last year, but that depth is coming to fruition and see how it goes from year.”On defense, West Bloomfield has just three returning starters back. Including last year’s shortened 11-1 season, West Bloomfield is 65-17 since the start of the 2014 season, which is good for a .792 winning percentage.mlive.com

Top recruits: It’s down to Michigan and Michiagn State for 4-star defensive back Dillon Tatum
After announcing a top 10 of Michigan, Michigan State, Ohio State, Notre Dame, Wisconsin, Penn State, Nebraska, Georgia, Baylor and USC back on Jan. 1 this year, Tatum said he is deciding between the Wolverines and Spartans. Tatum appears to be truly torn between Michigan and Michigan State as he still is undecided on a commitment date. According to Tatum, Michigan and Michigan State were both on board with the decision. Learning from former players such as Tre Mosley (Michigan State), Cornell Wheeler (Michigan, Kansas), Makari Paige (Michigan) and Edwards, Tatum hopes to prove his abilities to lead as well. Although he has already won a state championship, Tatum really hopes to cement his legacy as winner this fall.mlive.com
