It happened Saturday, Feb. 21, at the Thornberry Apartment complex, located near Maple and Farmington roads, and at the Maple View Liquor Store.
The shootings are believed to be targeted and not random.
Police said they received a 911 call just before 9 a.m. from a Thornberry Apartments resident, who said another resident had attempted to âforce their way into their apartment with an object that looked like a stick.â
Less than 10 minutes later, a 911 caller reported a liquor store worker had been shot and was being driven to the hospital.
Minutes after that, multiple 911 calls came from the apartment complex reporting shots fired in the area.
Prosecutors said the gunman fired multiple shots through the front door of an apartment unit, striking a woman in the torso. It reportedly was the same apartment the suspect tried to force his way into earlier.
The liquor store worker and a woman who lives at the apartment were shot and taken to the hospital to be treated. The woman was released and the man remains in serious condition.
A third unit in the complex was also struck by gunfire, but investigators said no one was hit there.
Police said the suspect was driving a red Chevrolet Equinox. Officers found the vehicle near the apartment complex, and the driver reportedly exited the vehicle with a rifle when they approached.
The man eventually complied with officersâ commands, dropped the rifle and was taken into custody. He was hospitalized shortly afterward for a possible seizure, authorities said.
On Tuesday, Feb. 24, 76-year-old Fawzi George Kased was charged with two counts of assault with attempt to murder, discharging a firearm in or at a building, felon/prohibited person in possession of a firearm and four counts of felony firearm.
He was arraigned from his hospital bed and pleaded not guilty.
Prosecutors said Kased was a former employee of Maple View Liquor and was fired from the job a few years ago.
The Court issued a $3 million bond, citing âserious danger to the entire community.â
