CHESTERFIELD TOWNSHIP, Mich. – The Great Lakes Water Authority (GLWA) is continuing to repair a large transmission main damaged earlier this week in Chesterfield Township.

The 36-inch water main, located along 24 Mile Road just west of Gratiot Avenue, was struck by a utility contractor on Tuesday, February 24, 2025.
Repair crews removed about 20 feet of compromised pipe and planned to install the replacement on Thursday, according to the release.
GLWA has authorized around-the-clock operations in an effort to restore the system as quickly as possible. Officials estimate the full repair process could be completed by the end of next week.
Boil water advisories remain in effect
Boil water advisories are still in effect for the Village of New Haven and part of Lenox Township, according to the release.
In the Village of New Haven, the first round of mandatory water quality testing has returned clear results. A second round of samples has been collected, with results expected on Friday. The boil water advisory will remain in place until testing requirements are fully satisfied.
Meanwhile, part of Lenox Township remains under advisory due to low water pressure caused by system rerouting during repairs. Because of this, officials say the advisory will stay in effect until the damaged main is fully restored and normal pressure levels return.
GLWA is coordinating closely with impacted municipalities, including Chesterfield Township, Lenox Township, and the Village of New Haven, to manage system adjustments and public communication.
