Just before the call, a couple from out of state went to the Troy Police Department lobby and said that their 36-year-old son was emotionally distressed, exited their car and ran from the area of the Civic Center complex.

While officers were trying to find the reported pedestrian, the driver of an Audi called 911, saying they hit something in the middle lane of northbound I-75 near Wattles Road.

When police arrived at the scene, they learned that the couple’s 36-year-old son was struck by the Audi and several other cars.

The 36-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver and passenger in the Audi were taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Police said drugs and alcohol were not factors in the crash.

Northbound I-75 was closed for about four hours while officials investigated and cleared the scene.
