Cindy Kinney resigns after backlash over Facebook post

WYANDOTTE, Mich. – A controversial Facebook post by a Wyandotte Public Schools board member caused public backlash and led to her resignation.

Board member Nick Beaven-Parshal confirmed the resignation of Cindy Kinney on Wednesday (Feb. 25).

At a school board meeting Tuesday night, all of Kinney’s fellow board members called for her to resign, according to meeting participants.

The Facebook post is not being republished on Local 4 due to its offensive nature, but it has prompted widespread criticism from residents and local leaders.

Kinney issued an apology for the comment but did not attend the meeting, citing a planned vacation, the board said.

The school board said it will move to fill the vacant seat until the next scheduled school board election.
