Wyandotte police officers save 2 men from jumping into Detroit River
WYANDOTTE, Mich. – The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said suicidal thoughts have increased in all age groups since the pandemic began. This month, Wyandotte police helped save two men -- one in his early 30′s the other in his late 50s -- from jumping in the Detroit River. Early Wednesday morning, police were trying desperately to prevent a man from jumping into the Detroit River. With COVID restrictions now allowing a 50% capacity, or up to 100 people, at restaurants and bars, the Detroit Health Department were out monitoring crowds. Stranger steps forward to help Metro Detroit man after thief takes $700 from wallet
WYANDOTTE, Mich. – A man was caught on camera taking money out of wallet sitting on a store counter. The wallet was accidentally left by a 72-year-old man at the Shopper’s Valley store in Wyandotte. The man said when he realized he left it, he rushed back and found it in the same place. The man said the money was saved up to pay for his property taxes. Wyandotte police located and arrested the man accused of stealing the money.
Wyandotte police use social media to return stolen blanket to rightful owner
WYANDOTTE, Mich. – When Tonyia Gill had a custom-made keepsake blanket made for her best friend, she never thought the blanket would make headlines. One of those stolen items was Gill’s blanket, but without the packaging, police weren’t sure who it belonged to. They posted a photo of the blanket on social media and asked if anyone knew the woman in the photos on the blanket. Gill started getting phone calls that day from people asking if the blanket was hers within 24 hours, the stolen blanket was returned. The suspected thief is facing seven counts of mail theft and potentially seven years imprisonment.

She founded the People’s Project to help battle youth mental illness. “The People’s Project is very near and dear to her heart," said Kaylee’s dad, Jerry Barton. "One of her best friends committed suicide several years ago and it deeply affected her, and still does. Man posing as DTE worker steals over $5,000 from 90-year-old Wyandotte woman
WYANDOTTE, Mich. – A man posing as a DTE energy employee entered a 90-year-old woman’s Wyandotte home and stole over $5,000 this week, according to authorities. Wyandotte police say an unidentified man smooth-talked his way into the victim’s home, saying he needed to check her electricity and furnace. He then had her check lights in another room while he “checked” lights in a separate room, officials said. Wyandotte woman charged after injuring 1 in hit-and-run during protest in Taylor
WAYNE COUNTY, Mich. – A 68-year-old Wyandotte woman has been charged in connection with a hit-and-run that happened during a Downriver Black Lives Matter protest in June. The incident happened on June 16 at 7:20 p.m. in the 23300 block of Goddard Road. A 45-year-old Van Buren Township woman was injured. When Jones' vehicle was close to the protesters, it is reported that Jones drove through the protesters striking a Van Buren Township woman. The Van Buren Township woman received non-life-threatening injuries and received medical attention at the scene.
Man suspected in 2019 murder case charged with dragging Wyandotte detective with vehicle
WYANDOTTE, Mich. – Wyandotte police working the 2019 murder case of Linda Breen said they were trying to find a 22-year-old man and bring him in for questioning. However, the attempt to arrest Christian Lowe last week became almost deadly for one detective. He sped away, dragging our detective,” Hamilton said. When the truck goes off the screen of a surveillance video, it barrels toward the alley, the detective goes flying, and the truck crashes into this fence just feet away from a children’s play area. Hamilton believes that what happened called for deadly force.
