DETROIT – A quadruple shooting left two people dead and two others injured during a repast on Detroit’s east side.
Police said they responded to the incident, which occurred in the 19400 block of Sherwood Street, about 8:30 p.m., after shots were reported near American Legion Post 375 and its event hall.
Officers said they initially were told three people had been shot; a fourth victim arrived at a Metro Detroit hospital shortly afterward, bringing the total to four.
Police said a woman in her 20s and a man in his 30s were among the deceased.
Officials said the victims and the shooter were known to one another and that roughly 100 people attended the repast.
“We were informed that the individuals who were attending this event, who are all victims, uh, were attending a repass at this location. Uh, there appeared to be, uh, approximately 100 people attending this repass, and we are aware that other individuals may have information that may help us to come to a resolution on this case,” said Detroit police Homicide Captain Marcus Thirkill.
The Detroit police Homicide Task Force, made up of the Detroit Police Department Homicide Division, the Michigan State Police, the FBI, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, is leading the investigation.
Police said the shooting appeared to have occurred in the facility’s parking lot while many people were outside.
Investigators are identifying witnesses, collecting surveillance and cellphone video, and processing evidence.
No arrests or suspect descriptions were released Friday.
