Detroit father charged with abandoning 13-month-old son in impounded vehicle

The child’s condition has not been released

WAYNE COUNTY, Mich. – Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy charged Orlander Murnell Linson Jr., 35, of Detroit, in connection with abandoning his 13-month-old son in a vehicle that was later found at an impound lot.

Prosecutors said Linson left the child inside a vehicle on Friday, Feb. 27, 2026, at approximately 3:30 a.m. in front of a residence in the 20600 block of Damman Street.

Authorities said the vehicle remained at the location until about 3:30 p.m., when Harper Woods police were dispatched, found the car unoccupied, and impounded it.

On Feb. 28, 2026, Detroit police received a missing-person report from the child’s mother.

A Detroit Police Department investigation led officers to an impound lot in the 22700 block of Lexington Street in Eastpointe, where the child was located inside the vehicle and taken to a Metro Detroit hospital for evaluation, officials said.

The child’s condition has not been released.

Linson was charged with second-degree child abuse and child abuse—leaving a child in a vehicle resulting in physical harm, prosecutors said.

He was arraigned in 32A District Court and was ordered held on a cash/surety bond and fitted with a GPS tether, officials said.

A probable cause conference is scheduled for March 11, 2026, at 1:30 p.m., with a preliminary examination set for March 18, 2026.
