According to a criminal complaint unsealed on Feb. 27, deputies from the Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Office responded to the area of E Forest Avenue and Campbell Avenue in Ypsilanti Township on Feb. 20 for a report of a man, believed to be intoxicated, who had fallen on the bus.

While the suspected intoxicated man, identified as Fuqua, was escorted off the bus by the deputies and medical personnel, one deputy noticed there was an empty magazine well of a gun protruding from Fuqua’s right jacket pocket.

The deputy removed the gun from Fuqua’s jacket and rendered it safe after learning it was not loaded and no magazine was recovered.

Fuqua was later searched and police said he had about 47.06 gross grams of suspected crack cocaine in his left pants pocket.

According to an Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) agent in the criminal complaint, they know the suspected crack cocaine was intended to be distributed because, based on their training and experience, drug dealers often prepackage drugs into personal use amounts before selling them.

The agent said the characteristics of the packaging suggest Fuqua had the suspect crack cocaine with the intent to distribute the smaller packages of drugs for retail sale.
