8 first responders hospitalized after West Bloomfield temple attack, Henry Ford Health says

Henry Ford Health says 8 are being cared for at 2 of its hospitals

Henry Ford Health confirmed that eight first responders are being cared for at two of its hospitals after an attack at a West Bloomfield temple.

“The emergency medicine teams at Henry Ford West Bloomfield Hospital and Henry Ford Providence Novi Hospital are currently caring for eight first responders following this afternoon’s incident at Temple Israel. Further requests for updates on their conditions should be directed to law enforcement.

Our hearts go out to the community at Temple Israel and anyone who is impacted by this this frightening event. There is absolutely no place for violence in our community."

The attack happened on Thursday, March 12, 2026, at Temple Israel, which is at 5725 Walnut Lake Road in West Bloomfield Township.

The Jewish temple is near the intersection of Walnut Lake and Drake roads. It has a preschool program and a large congregation.

Authorities said they believe a person intentionally drove a truck through the doors and into the temple before gunfire was exchanged.

The truck then caught fire. Local 4 learned Thursday afternoon that the suspect had been killed.

No children or staff members were hurt, but one security guard was injured.
