WAYNE COUNTY, Mich. – A railroad crossing in Van Buren Township was closed off to traffic Monday morning due to a crash involving a train and a pickup truck.
The crash happened on March 23 at the railroad crossing on Sheldon Road between Van Born and Yost. It involved an Amtrak train and a pickup truck hauling a trailer.

Police said no one was injured, but a stretch of Sheldon Road was closed to traffic Monday morning while police cleared and investigated the scene.
The freeway reopened just before 12 p.m.
Some people riding the Amtrak train, headed to Chicago, said they didn’t feel a major impact beyond the train stopping, and many passengers were told to take a bus to Chicago.
Van Buren Township police are urging the public to use caution when approaching railroad crossings, cross only at designated crossings, always obey crossing signals and gates, and stay alert and avoid distractions like phones or headphones.
