Pedestrian who died on Michigan highway was struck by multiple vehicles
VAN BUREN TOWNSHIP, MI – A pedestrian was fatally struck by a vehicle and then hit several more times Tuesday night while crossing westbound I-94 in Van Buren Township, police said. Around 8 p.m. Tuesday, dispatchers were advised of an object that had been struck in the roadway and caused a crash in the area of I-94 and Haggerty, Michigan State Police Second District said in a news release. Upon arrival, troopers determined the object was a body, which had been struck multiple times. The original vehicle that struck the victim pulled off the freeway at Belleville Road, police said. The medical examiner determined that the victim was a male from Van Buren Township, police said.

Marshals suffering from gunshot wounds allegedly sustained in a shootout in Inkster, the report said. Parchman was arraigned Tuesday, Aug. 9, in Wayne County court on charges of torture, assault with intent to do bodily harm less than murder, two counts of assault with a dangerous weapon, unlawful driving away and aggravated domestic violence, according to the Wayne County inmate lookup.

Driver killed in crash with utility pole in Ypsilanti Township
YPSILANTI TWP., MI – A Van Buren Township man was killed Saturday morning when his car left the road and hit a utility pole in Ypsilanti Township. Crews arrived to find the driver, 42, who was pronounced dead at the scene. He was the only occupant in the vehicle and the only car involved in the crash, police said. The crash is still under investigation, but it is believed the driver was going west on Martz Road when he crossed the centerline into oncoming traffic before crashing into the utility pole and rolling into the ditch on the south side of the road, police said. Investigators are awaiting a report from the Washtenaw County Medical Examiner’s Office to determine if a medical condition, drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash, police said.

A third suspect has been formally charged with murder in the 2017 killing of Van Buren Township woman Egypt Covington. Shandon Ray Groom, a 28-year-old from Toledo was charged Thursday with murder and home invasion three years after Covington was found bound and shot in her home. The arrest is another piece of the puzzle in the case and for her family, it’s another step toward justice. He was charged with felony murder and two counts of first degree home invasion. “It brings it all to life and we now have faces that we can get mad at instead wondering what we didn’t know,” Lindsay Brink said.

The search found a 2017 Dodge Challenger reported stolen in Detroit, a 2020 Dodge Charger reported stolen from Warren and a 2018 Dodge Charger stolen from Southfield.
