GROSSE ILE, Mich. – Grosse Ile police confirmed an investigation is underway into an alleged sexual assault involving a minor, but officials say limited information is being released to protect the victim’s privacy.
According to the Grosse Ile Police Department, the assault is alleged to have occurred the evening of March 20 at a home on the island.
Police received the report around 9:25 p.m. on March 21. No arrests have been made, though suspects have been identified. Names are not being released.
Despite the limited information from authorities, the case has sparked significant conversation throughout the community, from Facebook posts to conversations around town.
Residents spoken with on Thursday (March 26) expressed shock over the allegations.
“I’ve heard of minor things happening here, but that’s pretty severe,” said one anonymous community member.
“I was shocked. It just wasn’t something I was expecting to see, that’s all,” said another.
Grosse Ile Schools sent an email to parents after police made the report public, acknowledging the allegations and recognizing the situation could be distressing for families.
The school district’s superintendent was not available for comment Thursday but provided a written statement on Wednesday.
“The School District refers all questions regarding the specific facts of this matter to the Police Department, as the report of sexual assault did not take place at school or at a school-related event,” the superintendent said.
