MASIDSON HEIGHTS, Mich. – Madison Heights Police Department has saved a 72-year-old Shelby Township woman who began chocking at a local restaurant.
On April 16, around 7 p.m., police were dispatched to Charlie’s Restaurant on N. Campbell Road after an employee called 911 to report a customer choking and turning purple.

When officers arrived, they found the woman unconscious and no longer breathing effectively. Police lifted the woman into a seated position and began performing the Heimlich maneuver.
Officer Teal and Officer Rivera took turns administering abdominal thrusts, while Officer Al-Hilfi and Officer Berlucchi helped keep the woman upright and stable.
Officers were able to dislodge the obstruction, and the woman began breathing again.
The Madison Heights Fire Department arrived at the restaurant shortly after and continued medical treatment. The woman was taken to a local hospital as a precaution, where she made a full recovery and was discharged that evening.
The woman asked to remain anonymous but expressed appreciation to first responders, crediting them with saving her life.
