15-year-old charged in fatal stabbing of 22-year-old man on Detroit’s west side

His next court appearance, a preliminary examination, is scheduled for Aug. 27 at 2 p.m.

DETROIT – A 15-year-old boy from Detroit has been charged in connection with the fatal stabbing of 22-year-old Ejon Banks, Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy announced.

The teen is not being charged as an adult.

He has been designated as an adult, meaning that if convicted, a judge could sentence him as a juvenile, as an adult, or impose a blended juvenile sentence that could allow an adult sentence if the juvenile is not rehabilitated.

The incident occurred on Sunday, July 26, 2026, at about 5:17 p.m. near Longfellow Street and Rosa Parks Boulevard, according to prosecutors.

Detroit police responding to a report of a stabbing found Banks suffering from multiple stab wounds to his chest and stomach.

Medics transported him to a local hospital, where he died from his injuries.

Prosecutors allege that a physical altercation between the teenager and Banks escalated before the 15-year-old stabbed Banks multiple times with a knife.

The 15-year-old also allegedly took Banks’ handgun before fleeing the scene, prosecutors said.

The Detroit Police Department’s investigation led to the juvenile’s arrest on Aug. 5, 2026.

He is charged with one count each of first-degree murder, felony murder and armed robbery.

The teen appeared in court on Aug. 6 and was remanded to the Juvenile Detention Facility.

His next court appearance, a preliminary examination, is scheduled for Aug. 27 at 2 p.m.
