Detroit restaurants and businesses see boom amid Pistons playoff run

Downtown restaurants and bars prepare for record playoff crowds

DETROIT – A huge win for the Pistons means a huge win for Detroit businesses, too. After the Pistons shut down the Magic on Sunday, restaurants were ready for the rush of it all.

“First time since 2008, so it was really really awesome,” Charlie Chappus said. He had just left the Pistons game after attending with his dad, Chris.

Decked out in their Pistons gear, they traveled in from Grand Rapids. They started their night watching the Pistons shut down the Magic and decided the good vibes couldn’t stop with the final buzzer.

“We decided, why not make it a double header and we’re going to the Tigers game,” Chris Chappus said.

In between, though? They needed some fuel. So, Mati it was.

“It seems like everybody just wants to keep the party going after the game – so come to our bars,” Summer Lisk, the bar manager at Mati, said.

They’re preparing for game 1 of round 2 of the playoffs at LCA on Tuesday.

“We are getting ready,” Lisk said. “That’s like the best thing I can say is it’s going to be a big one I feel. It’s everyone around us, I feel like we’re all expecting such a huge crowd.”

A few doors down at Fishbones, they’re fired up too.

“It’s a huge influx of business for all the restaurants here in Greektown,” Nico Gatzaros, the owner at Fishbones said.

They’ve already seen quite the boom.

“Oh, we’re ready,” he said. “We’ve been ready and waiting. It’s super exciting, like I said. Greektown is ready in general.”

“I think you should just come down here and find out for yourself,” Lisk said.

“Go Detroit Basketball,” Chris Chappus said.
