People spend about $285 on Mother’s Day

Mother’s Day shopping is expected to hit a record high this year.

A new National Retail Federation survey found that people plan to spend an average of $285 to celebrate mom -- about $25 more than last year. Total spending is expected to reach $38 billion. Flowers, greeting cards, dinners, jewelry and clothing top the list of popular gifts. This week also happens to be National Small Business Week.
