Residents evacuated after fire at Galston Apartments on Detroit’s west side

The Detroit Fire Department responded swiftly to an early morning apartment fire on Michigan Avenue and Cicotte Street on Detroit’s west side.

Firefighters were dispatched to the two-alarm fire at the Galston Apartments at 7:43 a.m. on Monday after receiving a call about a fire that broke out inside a second floor apartment.

According to Leo Spitzig, senior chief with the Detroit Fire Department, the building was about 95% occupied with roughly 30-40 units. One male resident was transported to a nearby hospital with minor injuries after jumping from a third-floor window, Spitzig said, while another man was hospitalized for smoke inhalation.

Mount Clemens woman sentenced to 60 days in jail, 5 years probation in child porn case

A 29-year-old Macomb County woman was sentenced on Thursday to 60 days in jail and five years probation for allegedly using her computer to share child sexually abusive material in February 2025.

Jasmine Ellise Rix, of Mount Clemens, pleaded no contest on March 12 to three counts of distributing - child sexually abusive material before Macomb County Circuit Judge Michael Servitto after multiple delays.

The Macomb County Sheriff’s Office launched an investigation into Rix in early March 2025 after receiving a tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) that she was using her computer to share child pornography.

Comedy legend Dave Chappelle to perform in Detroit as part of a 5-city North American arena tour

Comedy legend Dave Chappelle will bring a new run of arena shows to Detroit as part of a five-city North American tour, with a stop scheduled at Little Caesars Arena.

Chappelle will come to Detroit on Monday, June 15, at 7:30 p.m.

The Detroit performance is one of several June dates, along with Baltimore, Cleveland, Chicago, and San Diego.

Tickets for all shows went on sale Friday, June 5, at noon through 313Presents.com, LiveNation.com, and Ticketmaster.com.
