Fireworks and the July 4th holiday go hand-in-hand. But you have to stay safe while handling fireworks.
“You gotta be careful, don’t drink a lot and use common sense,” said one man.

Last year, Canton firefighter’s responded to dozens of fireworks-related incidents. In some cases, people had to be rushed to the hospital with serious injuries.
“We’ve seen many things over the years, people hold them for too long and the fireworks exploded. We’ve seen people suffer eye and facial injuries and lose limbs,” said Bernie Brosnan, a fire inspector with the Canton Fire Department.
Brosnan is urging people to take precautions.
“Make sure there’s a responsible adult involved in using them. We don’t want to throw fireworks and if you have the dud don’t check on it and see what happens. A nice metal bucket filled with water works as staging area and to put fireworks out in the bucket,” Brosnan added.
Takiyah sells legal fireworks at a Meijer off of Ford Road in Canton and says there are safer way to light a firework.
“I don’t want anybody coming back saying somebody got hurt, I don’t want to hear that on the news, that would break my heart,” Takiyah said.
Remember - you can light fireworks starting at 11 am Saturday morning, but you have to wrap them up by 11:45 pm Saturday night.
