Michigan man beat, strangled girlfriend for days, shot phone to keep her from calling 911, cops say

ST. CLAIR COUNTY, Mich. – A St. Clair County man is facing multiple charges after allegedly beating and strangling his girlfriend for days. He is also accused of shooting her phone to keep her from calling 911.

Michigan State Police said troopers responded to the 1200 block of Holmes Road on July 5 at around 11 a.m. for a report of a domestic assault.

Police learned that Andrew Craner, 27, had been allegedly beating and strangling his girlfriend for several days and shot her phone with a pistol to keep her from calling 911.

When troopers tried to contact Craner, he allegedly tried to drive away in a golf cart. He was eventually taken into custody.

Craner was arraigned in court on July 6 on charges of assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder, domestic violence, fleeing a police officer, reckless use of a firearm and obstruction of justice. He was given a $10,000 bond, and it was posted.

He is scheduled to return to court on July 14 for a probable cause conference.
