DEARBORN – A 43-year-old Dearborn man is in custody after a fight between family members inside a home last Wednesday led to the fatal assault of a 64-year-old man.
Dearborn Police were dispatched to the home in the 6500 block of Theisen Street around 7:45 p.m. on Aug. 19. Upon arrival police said they found the victim severely injured, and first responders from the Dearborn Fire Department treated him at the scene before transporting him to a nearby hospital.
The suspect, Mohammed Rustom, was arraigned Thursday on one count of assault with intent to murder and one count of assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder. However, after the victim succumbed to his injuries and died on Saturday police are awaiting updated charges from the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office, the department said.
Rustom’s bond was set at $500,000 cash or surety, pending additional charges.
“We extend our deepest condolences to the victim’s family and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time,” said Dearborn Police Chief Issa Shahin in a news release on Sunday. “Our investigators will continue working closely with the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office to ensure the individual responsible is held accountable through the justice system.”
An investigation is ongoing and the victim has not been identified.
