Carjacking suspect arrested after stabbing victim, crashing into building during police chase in Detroit

Police have not released the identities of the suspect or the victim, and the investigation remains ongoing

DETROIT – A man is in custody after allegedly stabbing a victim during a carjacking on Detroit’s west side before leading police on a chase that ended when he crashed into a building.

The incident occurred on Wednesday (July 15) around 5:30 a.m. in the 15300 block of Hartwell Street, in response to reports of a carjacking.

During the incident, police said the suspect allegedly stabbed the victim before stealing the vehicle.

Officials said the victim, an adult man, was transported for medical treatment and is listed in stable condition.

At about 9:30 a.m., officers said they located the suspected carjacker.

Police said the man fled, leading officers on a pursuit through the city before crashing into a building at the corner of Waverly Avenue and Livernois.

The suspect, a man believed to be in his 40s, was taken into custody following the crash.
