WASHTENAW COUNTY, Mich. – Washtenaw County is extending cooling center hours as southeast Michigan remains under a heat advisory through 8 p.m. Wednesday.
The Towner Human Services Building atrium, 555 Towner St. in Ypsilanti, will remain open from 8:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday (July 15), giving residents a place to cool off, rest and hydrate during the extreme heat.

Visitors should use the north entrance off Corner Street near the courtyard and playground to access the cooling area.
County officials said that if the heat advisory is extended through Thursday, the Towner Human Services Building will continue to operate as a cooling center.
Residents are encouraged to check the Washtenaw County Office of Community and Economic Development for updates.
Additional cooling sites available across county
Additional county cooling sites are open from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays at the Learning Resource Center, 4135 Washtenaw Ave., and the Washtenaw County Administration Building, 200 N. Main St., both in Ann Arbor.
All Washtenaw County office building lobbies are also available as cooling sites during normal business hours Monday through Friday.

Delonis Center activates weather amnesty policy
The Delonis Center in Ann Arbor also activates its “weather amnesty” policy during periods of dangerous heat.
When the heat index reaches 90 degrees or higher, the shelter opens additional space for people seeking relief from the heat during the day and into the evening.
Health officials encourage residents to stay indoors as much as possible, limit sun exposure, drink plenty of water, and check on older adults, young children, and others who are especially vulnerable to heat-related illness.
