DETROIT – A Detroit Tigers game became the backdrop for an emotional reunion as the family of a young Michigan organ donor met one of the people whose life was changed by his final gift.
The family of Colin Aronson, a 25-year-old Lincoln Park man who died unexpectedly in March, met Andy Uyttenhove for the first time during Donate Life Night at Comerica Park before the Tigers faced the Kansas City Royals on Friday (July 24).

Uyttenhove received Aronson’s pancreas through organ donation.
Aronson, a registered organ donor, helped save six lives through his decision to donate his organs after his death.
For Aronson’s family, seeing Uyttenhove in person brought a mix of emotions as they continue grieving while witnessing the impact of Colin’s generosity.
“To watch him go from being in the hospital and the pictures that Autumn would post, to see him standing four feet away from me right now looking incredibly healthy is a beautiful thing,” said Colin’s mom, Tricia Aronson.
Uyttenhove said meeting Aronson’s family was an emotional experience.
“Emotions are high right now,” Uyttenhove said. “As soon as I seen Paul (Aronson) standing next to me, I started breaking down. I get very emotional when I see his mother, as it makes me think of Colin and all of the grief that they are going through right now.”
The Tigers game held special meaning for the Aronson family because Colin was a lifelong fan of the team.
His family said he was buried wearing his Tigers jersey, and friends and relatives honored him by wearing Tigers gear at his funeral.
Colin also shared a Tigers ticket package with his father, who has continued attending games as a way to feel connected to his son.
The reunion was part of Donate Life Night, an event designed to highlight the importance of organ donation and recognize donors and recipients.
Uyttenhove’s living kidney donor also attended the game as Tarik Skubal took the mound for Detroit.
According to Donate Life Michigan, more than 2,600 people in the state are currently waiting for a lifesaving organ transplant.
Organ donation advocates say Colin’s story demonstrates how one decision can create a lasting impact for multiple families.
For the Aronson family and Uyttenhove, Friday’s meeting offered a chance to honor Colin’s memory and celebrate the lives that were changed by his generosity.
