Amazon has been sending claim notices to Prime members since January 2026 as a result of the Federal Trade Commission’s (FTC) $2.5 billion lawsuit. For those who have not received an automatic refund, there’s still some time to file a claim.
What to know about the lawsuit

According to the FTC’s lawsuit, Amazon allegedly enrolled tens of millions of customers in Amazon Prime subscriptions without their knowledge or consent and made it difficult for customers to cancel them.
As a result of the settlement, Amazon is required to pay $1.5 billion in refunds to customers impacted. The company is also required to pay a $1 billion civil penalty and cease unlawful enrollment and cancellation practices for Prime subscriptions.
Who is eligible
You must meet all three requirements to apply for a refund:
- You are an Amazon Prime customer in the United States.
- You signed up for an Amazon Prime subscription through a “challenged enrollment flow” or tried to cancel through the online cancellation flow but were unable to do so between June 23, 2019 and June 23, 2025.
- You used no more than three Amazon Prime Benefits (including Prime Music or Prime Video products offered for free to Prime subscribers) in any 12-month period following Amazon Prime enrollment.
Customers do not need to determine on their own whether they signed up through a challenged enrollment flow. Amazon will complete that analysis.
How much you could receive
Eligible Prime customers will receive a refund of their Amazon Prime subscription fees, up to $51.
How refunds are being issued
Amazon will be paying refunds through an automatic refund process for eligible Prime customers and a claims process for eligible Prime customers who didn’t get an automatic refund.
How to collect your payment
Customers can select how to get payment on the claim form. Payments can be collected by check, PayPal or Venmo.
Customers who did not previously receive an automatic payment have until July 27 to submit a claim.
