Last year, the Reptarium in Utica got even bigger and made a splash by opening its own aquarium. You can get a hands-on experience with reptiles, mammals, and now capybaras.
Capybaras are the largest rodents in the world, enjoying a leafy diet of plants and grass. They have more in common with a beaver than a rat because they are semi-aquatic. Their scientific name quite literally means “water pig.”
You’ll usually find them near lakes, rivers, and wetlands in South America, and they love hanging out in herds because they are incredibly social animals. That’s why they’ll feel right at home at the LegaSea Aquarium in Utica.
