WASHTENAW COUNTY, Mich. – An Ann Arbor woman died after she ran into M-14 during an argument and was struck by a car.
The crash happened on westbound M-14 near Wagner Road at around 11 p.m. on Aug. 2.
According to Michigan State Police, a 45-year-old Ann Arbor woman and a 32-year-old were drinking at a restaurant together, then had an argument once they were in the car, leading to the 45-year-old woman demanding to leave the car and opening the door while the car was moving.
After the driver, the 32-year-old woman, pulled the car over, police said the 45-year-old woman ran out of the car onto the westbound lanes of M-14 and was struck by a Jeep Compass.
The driver of the Jeep Compass, a 45-year-old Ann Arbor man, thought he had struck a deer. He was not injured and was not under the influence.
The 45-year-old woman died at the scene.
According to investigators, when the 32-year-old woman checked on her friend, she saw she had died and left the scene. State police found the 32-year-old woman, and she said she left because she “panicked.”
Police said she was driving under the influence. Troopers submitted a report to the Washtenaw County Prosecutor’s Office for a review of possible charges against the 32-year-old woman.
The investigation is ongoing.
