War veteran has van, tools stolen while at Cobo Center job fair

Veteran has tools, van stolen while attending job fair in Detroit

DETROIT – Vincent Davis has been working hard to get his life on track after some tough times.

Homeless, Davis has been getting help from Emmanuel House. He makes money by doing occasional handyman work and giving plasma once a week.

"I had to figure out how to maintain myself, and it wasn't easy," he said. "What I've been doing is, you know, no even getting me by. I have to have stable employment."

The former soldier and war veteran went to Cobo Center recently to attend a job fair. He was seeking steady work.

"I attempted to find work," he said.

After 5 and 1/2 hours at the job fair, Davis stepped outside to find his work van and all of the tools inside of it were stolen.

"I've got guys that want me to come work and now I have no tools and no way to get there," Davis said.

His means for making ends meet were gone. Now, the veteran is hoping a good Samaritan steps up to keep his comeback from being sidetracked.

"This is a major setback. This is almost two years in the making just to get where I am today," Davis said.
