DETROIT – A 53-year-old man and a 10-year-old girl were killed Tuesday night when the vehicle they were in was struck at Linwood Street and Glendale Avenue in Detroit.

UPDATE: Drunk driver suspected in crash which killed man, 10-year-old girl at Linwood, Glendale in Detroit

The vehicle was stopped at a red light and about to go northbound on Linwood Street when another vehicle smashed into the back of the vehicle, shoving it into a pole. The car was hit with such force that it was nearly ripped in half.

The crash happened about 11:55 p.m.

The 53-year-old man driving the vehicle was killed. Two 10-year-old twin girls were passengers inside the vehicle. One of them was killed while the other is in critical condition. Their relationship with the driver is not known at this point.

The driver of the other vehicle suffered only minor injuries. A third vehicle was clipped during the crash.

"You knew somebody was in real serious, serious condition," said Parish Flowers, who witnessed the crash. "You could tell just by the magnitude of the force that it hit that pole ... that's sad. It didn't have to be like that, but that's what happens when you speed."

Speed likely was a factor in this crash. Crash investigators are looking into other factors.

Detroit police have a fatal crash squad investigating.
