Michigan workers making minimum wage will get raise in 2024 Wage remains below estimated livable wage

Employees making minimum wage in Michigan will get a slight raise in 2024.
Michigan’s minimum wage rate will increase from $10.10 to $10.33 per hour on January 1, 2024. Michigan’s Improved Workforce Opportunity Wage Act of 2018 establishes the annual schedule and increases.

Effective January 1, 2024: The minimum hourly wage will increase to $10.33 per hour.
The 85% rate for minors aged 16 and 17 will increase to $8.78 per hour.
The tipped employee rate of hourly pay increases to $3.93 per hour.
The training wage of $4.25 per hour for newly hired employees ages 16 to 19 for their first 90 calendar days of employment remains unchanged.
The $10,33 wage remains below what is considered a livable wage in Michigan, according to MIT’s Living Wage calculator, which estimates an adult without children needs to make at least $16.27 per hour to support themselves. That numbers goes up to $36.81 for an adult with one child.
