Here’s a look at a county-by-county breakdown of population from the 1990 Census through the 2020 Census in Michigan.

As of 2022, Wayne, Oakland and Macomb counties are Michigan’s most populous, followed by Kent, Genesee, Washtenaw and Ottawa counties.

Ottawa and Grand Traverse counties saw double-digital percentage population growth from 2010 to 2020. Kent, Allegan, Washtenaw, Livingston, Oakland and Barry counties all saw growth above 5% in that timeframe.

The state of Michigan’s overall population has been above 10 million since at least 2020.
