A social media post which called protesting NFL players degenerates has landed the leader of the Michigan State Police in hot water. Colonel Kriste Kibbey Etue shared a meme on her Facebook account which includes the line "we stand with the heroes, not a bunch of rich, entitled, arrogant, ungrateful, anti-American degenerates. Signed, We The People."

Reaction was swift from those criticizing the state police director and calling for her firing or resignation. Etue has apologized, and Gov. Rick Snyder says he won't fire her.

"It was a mistake to share this message on Facebook and I sincerely apologize to anyone who was offended," Etue said in a message released days after the post. "I will continue my focus on unity at the Michigan State Police and in communities across Michigan."

Michigan Black Caucus wants her out

Some legislators, civil rights groups and others still want her out. Etue met with the Michigan Legislative Black Caucus, a group which has called for her to resign, on Thursday.

Although it's not directly unrelated, this is all happening at the same time the Michigan State Police department is facing a lawsuit claiming racism. A Local 4 Defenders investigation revealed a dwindling number of black troopers on the force and even fewer coming out of the academy.

Attorney Leonard Mungo recently filed a class action lawsuit against the Michigan State Police department and he said the fact that this came from the top of the force is most troubling to him.

"In that kind of statement, or approval of that kind of statement, it expresses a value system," he said.

Gov. Snyder was in the meeting on Thursday in Lansing.
