Former 'Bachelor' star charged in fatal hit and run

Authorities say Soules was in possession of alcoholic beverages

The former star of TV's The Bachelor is being held behind bars after cops say he fled the scene of a fatal car crash.

Chris Soules, 35, went before a judge in a green prison jump suit and orange flip flops after being charged with leaving the scene of an accident causing death.

The fatal wreck happened at 8:20 p.m. Monday night in Aurora, Iowa. Soules was driving his 2008 Chevy pickup when cops say he rear-ended a John Deere tractor. Both vehicles went flying into a ditch.

The reality star allegedly fled the scene on foot, state police said. The driver of the tractor was identified as a 66-year-old local man, Kenneth Mosher.

Mosher was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Authorities say Soules was in possession of alcoholic beverages and containers. However, he was not charged with drunk driving.

Soules was one of the most popular "Bachelors" ever, dubbed "Prince Farming” in 2015 when he appeared on Season 19 of the show.

At the show's finale, he proposed to Chicago nurse Whitney Bischoff. The engagement lasted six months before they split. He later appeared on Dancing With the Stars.

The Buchanan County Sheriff’s Office said Soules’ bail was set at $10,000. He was released after his mother paid his bond.

His rep told Inside Edition that Soules was “devastated to hear the man on the tractor passed away," adding that "his thoughts and prayers are with the man's family."
