Police seek help to identify Lake Michigan drowning victim

DETROIT – Michigan officials are hoping someone can help them identify a man who drowned in Lake Michigan.

A man's body was found July 4 floating in Lake Michigan about a mile from Leland Harbor.

The Leelanau County Sheriff's office released this info:

SEEKING PUBLIC ASSISTANCE WITH INFORMATION ON DROWNING VICTIM'S IDENTIFICATION

The Leelanau County Sheriff's Office is seeking information related to the recovery of a drowning victim on July 4th, 2017 in Lake Michigan northwest of Leland harbor. A post mortem recreation photo the Michigan State Police produced is shown below. The victim is a white male believed to be between the ages of 50-75 years old.

Also shown below is a photo of a small watercraft located 8.3 miles southwest of the body recovery location, closer to North Manitou Island. The dingy was originally a medium grey color with a black floor, but had been repainted olive drab which is now well worn. It is unknown if the victim and the recovered watercraft are related.

Anyone with information is requested to contact the Leelanau County Sheriff's Office at 256-8800.
