Roof collapses at Inkster church

Inkster Fire Department: Roof of Amity Baptist Church caves in due to structural issues

INKSTER, Mich. – The Inkster Fire Department was dispatched to the Amity Baptist Church, around 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, after receiving word that the roof had collapsed.

Once on scene, fire crews determined the roof did not cave in from a fire or explosion, but rather from a structural collapse.

The church, originally built in 1964, is located on Carlysle Street.

The section of church under the collapsed roof is normally used as a daycare center for 30 children.

Luckily, no one was in that part of the church, and no injuries were reported.

Safety engineers are now trying to determine why the roof failed.
