Royal Oak residents find swastikas, 'white power' spray-painted on property

Racist graffiti painted on garages and vehicles

ROYAL OAK, Mich. – Residents in Royal Oak woke Sunday morning to swastikas and the phrase "white power" spray-painted on garages and vehicles.

Police were called around 6 a.m. to the 500 block of Woodcrest Drive after someone found a swastika spray-painted on their garage door.

Officers found that other properties in the neighborhood had been vandalized. Vehicles, fences, garages and a tree were found with swastikas and the phrase "white power."

Six other residents filed reports with police, and authorities determined the incidents occurred sometime overnight in the neighborhood around Farnum and Maxwell avenues.

A resident in the 600 block of Hilldale told police their unlocked vehicle had been rummaged through; however, nothing was taken.

Detectives from the Royal Oak Police Criminal Investigation Division were called in Sunday.

Police said the incidents appear to be random and were not targeted for any specific reason.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Royal Oak police Lt. Keith Spencer at 248-246-3456.
