Stolen pickup truck used to smash into Emagine Theatre in Canton Township as thieves target ATM

Emagine Theatre reopens

CANTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. – The Emagine Theatre in Canton Township has reopened Wednesday after a stolen pickup truck was used to crash through the front doors and smash into an ATM.

Officials said the incident left so much damage, the theater couldn't open on time. It will cost thousands of dollars to repair.

A cleaning crew was working inside when the truck came barreling in through the front doors around 3:45 a.m. Wednesday, according to authorities.

"I did hear a car, heard a bang," said Melissa Bourdeau, of Emagine Theatres. "My friend ran and got me."

Police said the thief stole a 2004 Dodge Ram from an apartment complex across Ford Road and used it as a battering ram, backing in through the doors and hitting the ATM multiple times until it broke open.

None of the workers were injured. Justin Jones said he was working his very first shift.

"Pretty crazy," Jones said. "One of the most eventful first days of work ever."

The incident caused 12 shows to be canceled Wednesday morning.

Authorities found the truck abandoned at a nearby business shortly after the incident.
