Rep. Dave Trott discusses healthcare, border control in heated town hall meeting in Novi

'I don't know if I'd want to go on a boat ride with you'

NOVI, Mich. – Republican congressman Dave Trott met with residents in Novi to answer questions about the repeal of the Affordable Care Act and a variety of other topics concerning taxpayers.

During the heated session Saturday, Trott was met with an outcry of angry residents who made it clear that they did not agree with the repeal and demanded answers about border control and other security issues.

During the hour-long town hall, Trott attempted to answer questions through spouts of angry chants and booing, which often came after Trott's criticism of  actions taken by the Obama administration.

A man who was there in protest of the repeal stood up and told Trott the story of his cancer-stricken son, who he says was saved thanks to the benefits of the Affordable Care Act.

Trott offered to meet with the man personally and assured the crowd that health insurance would be of the utmost priority for all Americans.

When asked about President Trumps tax returns and why Trott voted against the release, Trott said that the vote for the release of the returns was unrelated to the bill he was focused on at the time.

"There was never a resolution specifically aimed at having Trump release his tax returns. What it was, was a motion to re-commit. It was a procedural motion totally unrelated to Trump's tax returns. A yes vote on the motion to re-commit was designed to take out the bill, which I recall was veterans benefits," Trott said.

After spending time answering the questions of other residents on border control, security, and healthcare, Trott announced that he had to leave to attend the Novi boat show and invited all of the participants to come.

"I don't know if I'd want to go on a boat ride with you, I think you'd throw me overboard," Trott said, laughing.
