Missouri rescue shelter saves ‘Narwhal,’ a puppy with extra tail growing out of his forehead

His full name is Narwhal the Little Magical Furry Unicorn

JACKSON, Mo. – Mac’s Mission, an animal rescue team in Jackson, Missouri, rescued an especially peculiar puppy from the cold on Friday.

The dog’s claim to (social media) fame: A tail growing out of his forehead. The original post sharing the team’s find was circulated more than a thousand times on Facebook with a link to donate for his recovery process that has collected over $1,000 so far.

A visit to the veterinarian Tuesday found that, “the extra tail is not connected to anything and has no real use other than making him the coolest puppy ever!” the team said in a Facebook post. The doctor found there is no medical reason to remove the tail — which doesn’t wag, by the way, for those wondering.

“The unicorn face tail does not bother Narwhal and he never slows down just like any normal puppy,” the team stated in the post. “He seems completely healthy other than some usual puppy worms he got medication for. Right now he is pretty much the most unique amazing example of what we do here and we are so thankful to have the chance to be part of his journey.”

Narwhal is not available for adoption yet as the team wants to monitor his — and his extra tail’s — growth for some time.
