All 4 Pets contest winner announced

Congratulations to Rango from Clinton Township

CLINTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. – Congratulations to Rango from Clinton Township! This adorable little guy - a Bearded Dragon - is the winner of Local 4's All 4 Pets "Put Your Pet In A Promo" contest. Also, affectionately called "Bubba Boo" by his pet mom, Paula. His hatch day is February 24.

Paula said she was elated Rango was picked out of all of the other wonderful entrants -- cats, dogs, snakes, even another Bearded Dragon and more. And we send our thanks to everyone who entered the contest. It wasn't an easy choice.

Backstory:
He was an Easter gift from Paula's parents 2 1/2 years ago. He was only 4 weeks old when she got him. Paula said she’s always been fascinated with reptiles since she was 7 or 8. The funny thing? She got her first one at 48.

"Oh, my gosh. He's my world," she said.  Paula's mom was going to get her a turtle but the store didn’t have any. She said Rango had his paw up against the aquarium glass motioning for her to take him. And that's how he became her baby.

She named Rango after the animated movie of the same name, even though the animal in the movie was a chameleon.

Paula's Special Memory:
"My dad, Rango's grandpa as I called him, passed away from renal cell carcinoma May 3rd of this year. He truly loved Rango, and I feel in my heart that he in some way played a part from heaven in Rango's winning of the contest."

Daily Care:
She's gets up early every morning to give him a 15-20 minute bath so he can stay hydrated because Bearded Dragons don't drink water. She bought an infant bathtub with bubble jets she uses as a Jacuzzi-like tub.  His bed is the tub's insert. She says he's "super spoiled." Paula used to feed him shredded squash when he was a young lad.

Now he eats various greens like turnips, dandelions and arugula. She also feeds him fruit, blueberries, watermelon and cantaloupe but he refuses to eat carrots. Just like a kid.

A Day In The Life:
Rango apparently walks around the house and when he gets tired, sits in the window much of the day waiting for mom to come home from work. Around nine at night he gets snuggled and falls asleep on mom's neck. Then she puts him to bed.

Paula's Advice:
She says the more you handle Bearded Dragons, the more personable they’ll be. "He's like a child," she adds.

Winning Entry Pitch:
My Rango boy is a 2-year-old very loved and spoiled Bearded Dragon who has the cutest personality, loves swimming, loves making new friends, chasing blueberries, snuggling before bed, even has his own travel house for weekend trips! I believe he would be a most unique promo pet for your show ! Please consider my little guy!

Surprise Gift:
Rango got an Edible Arrangement bouquet as a congratulations today from an unknown admirer.
